I Baked My PowerBook

So, I’ve got some terrible news … I think I baked my PowerBook’s Hard drive. Here is the story:

Yesterday, around 12:30 PM, I left my apartment with a healthy, working PowerBook up in the loft. Because I am frugal, I turned off the AC to save on money. No need to cool off an apartment for no one to enjoy!

After seeing Superman and getting ice cream with Chris and Lauren, I returned home to relaxed and watch some television. Then, during a commercial, I went upstairs to check my email. So I hit the brightness button to bring up the screen, and nothing happened. Not good. I then hit a bunch of other buttons, and nothing happened. Then I put my hand where the hard drive sits, and holy cow was it hot. Now my laptop gets hot, but never have I felt it this hot. So of course I began to panic, I pulled out all the cables, ran down to the AC, and held the PB over the vents. This was not working fast enough, it was still really hot, and so I wrapped it in a towel and put it in the fridge. I waited and it was still hot. Last resort, the freezer. I only left it in there for a short period of time, as my senses came to me I realized that might not be the best idea. So finally I just took out the battery and sat the PowerBook over the AC vents and let it sit.

Once the PowerBook was nice and cool, I replaced the battery, and tried booting. No Dice. The evil Mac face with the ?. Evil. So I booted Disk Warrior (an adventure in itself), and even Disk Warrior did not recognize that my hard drive was even there. That is not good. So I tried booting several other times with no luck.

So I am staying late here at work, and hoping to pull the drive, connect it to my PC, and try to recover as much data as possible.
